The Yorkshire Dales - guided walking holidays

Above Settle
Above Settle (jan drysdale)

The Yorkshire Dales is an upland area that lies to the south east of the English Lake District and comprises the countryside between north Lancashire and the flatter land of east Yorkshire. The countryside is largely unspoiled and offers excellent days out for walkers of all abilities and ambitions.

The Three Peaks of Yorkshire (Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) is a famous challenge walk - if you do it in one go, it's a tough 26 miles with 5000 feet of ascent. But we don't do it like that: we can go up each of those fine hills, if you wish, but at a leisurely, civilized pace. Or we can do lots of walks exploring the lower hills, valleys, rivers, potholes (from a safe distance), industrial remains, limestone scenery and picturesque villages of the area.

There's also plenty of wildlife to keep you interested, particularly in spring and summer - wild flowers, curlews, lapwings. Much of the walking is pleasant underfoot and visitors will love the panoramas that unfold on a clear day. Don't miss a guided walking holiday in the Yorkshire Dales - a corner of the real England!

The railway walk

A walk with a difference following the line of the Settle - Carlisle railway just as far as Kirkby Stephen - the most rugged and most scenic bit. A must for all train buffs (although it's not compulsory for the enjoyment of this fascinating walk through broad landscapes, picturesque villages and one or two lonely places). Every day has a walk and at least one train ride through some of England's finest and most unspoiled scenery. One of our favourite guided walking holidays!railway walk details
