For some, the ideal walking holiday is to travel from A to B along an established trail, like the Coast to Coast or the Dales Way, but you may not fancy doing this on your own, and a bit of company on the way always helps. With Knobbly Stick, you can choose between 3 main long distance footpaths - the Coast to Coast, the Dales Way, or the Settle to Carlisle Railway walk - see the Yorkshire Dales page for this last one.
The Dales Way and the Coast-to-Coast are two of the finest walks you'll find anywhere, both across the north of England. The Dales Way runs from east to west and is about 80 miles long, whilst the Coast to Coast is normally done (and we do it) from west to east, and is 190 miles long. Both are exceptional walks, and represent a challenge. We'll take a week to do the Dales Way, and just over a fortnight to do the Coast to Coast.
Starts at Ilkley in Yorkshire, not far from Leeds, and ends at Bowness on Windermere on the shores of Lake Windermere. The walk is a constant delight – a lot of riverside walking, walking on moorland and farmland, almost always with a great view.dales way details
The big one as far as Knobbly Stick is concerned. Our longest holiday, requiring physical stamina and, more importantly the mental stamina to withstand 15 days of our sense of humour. Are you up for it?? Seriously, a walk like this is helped by having a bit of company on the way, so lend your support to others and be supported by them.coast to coast details
