Ullswater: arguably England's most beautiful lake and the place where Wordsworth saw his famous daffodils. You know, "I wandered lonely as a cloud...".

Glenridding: the village where we stay, is an ideal centre for exploring the high fells that surround it, or the quiet valleys that run between them. There is a famous lakeside walk we can do and at least one of the days will include a trip on the Ullswater "Steamer". There are few better ways of starting a walking day in this wonderful part of the world than with a boat journey. And better still, the cost is included in your holiday price.
Helvellyn: England's third highest peak (or hill, if you prefer) at 3,118 ft, dominates the area, and its ascent is available, but not compulsory! There are plenty of other places to see and visit - tranquil tarns (mountain lakes), spectacular waterfalls and the deer and red squirrels we often see when we get off the beaten track.

Wainwright Count: for those of you with Wainwrights to knock off, there are 43 of them we can do from Glenridding - but not all on the same holiday, of course! (For those not in the know, a Wainwright is one of the 214 Lake District hills described by A Wainwright in his classic guide books compiled in the 1950's and 60's. "Doing the Wainwrights" has become a popular pastime and has even had its own BBC TV programme, presented by Julia Bradbury. Most of our walkers are not enthusiastic tickers-off of summits but, then again, once you get there...)
