Keswick: one of the places for walkers in England. This small town in the northern part of the Lake District boasts some of the finest walking to be found anywhere in Europe.

Some of the highest hills in England are on the doorstep, including Scafell Pike, the highest of the lot at 3,210 ft. Other big hills within easy reach include Blencathra, Great Gable and Grisedale Pike, but there are loads of easy strolls to do as well, such as the Derwent Water lakeshore walk, a superbly scenic walk for relatively little effort. But mostly, there are the intermediate level fell walks that take the walker to some wonderful situations - Cat Bells, Walla Crag, Haystacks, Latrigg and a host of less well-known places all make worthwhile objectives for a day on the fells.
Keswick is a lively town, well worthy of a leisurely exploration. If you have the time and energy, why not drop in for a drink at one of its many cafes or pubs? It also has a cinema, a theatre, and a couple of museums.
Skiddaw: England's fourth highest peak (or hill, if you prefer) at 3,053 ft, dominates the town, and many people feel that a visit to the town is not complete without a visit to the top. You can, of course, do this with Knobbly Stick - and at your own pace.

Wainwright Count: for those of you with Wainwrights to knock off, there are 68 of them we can do from Keswick - but not all on the same holiday, of course! (For those not in the know, a Wainwright is one of the 214 Lake District hills described by A Wainwright in his classic guide books compiled in the 1950's and 60's. "Doing the Wainwrights" has become a popular pastime and has even had its own BBC TV programme, presented by Julia Bradbury. Most of our walkers are not enthusiastic tickers-off of summits but, then again, once you get there...)
