The English Lake District - guided walking holidays

Wasdale Head
Wasdale Head

The English Lake District is probably one of the best destinations in the world for the active holidaymaker. The walking is second to none - you can climb the highest hills in England (now called the Wainwrights, after the famous guide-book writer) or, if you prefer, there are a lot of places to explore that don't require a lot of effort. Some walks are world famous, and some are less well-known. You can always escape the crowds with Knobbly Stick.

For those interested in history and the cultural side of things, there is plenty for you - stone circles, Lakeland's literary and artistic connections and, of course, the scenery just cries out to be photographed. If you've never visited the Lake District, then you should. And if you have, you'll know what we mean, and will probably want to come back.

There are five different guided walking holidays (hiking tours) to choose from - all offer a slightly different perspective of this wonderful area, but no one ever leaves a Lake District holiday with Knobbly Stick disappointed with what they've seen and done. Finally, don't forget that, although we don't do singles holidays as such, we welcome solo travellers and charge no single supplement (on our hotel-based holidays). We do, of course, welcome couples and groups as well!

Keswick

Keswick, towards the north of the Lake District, is an ideal centre for walking, as it has an unparalleled variety of walking, at all standards. The town itself is situated at the northern end of Derwent Water, the so-called "Queen of the Lakes", which leads to Borowdale, one of England's favourite valleys. Keswick is an ideal destination for walkers of all abilities and ambitions.keswick details

Ullswater

Ullswater is the second largest lake in the Lake District, and arguably the most beautiful. On the eastern side of the Lake District, the Ullswater area offers some outstanding high-level routes, but also some delectable walks on lakeshore and in valleys. You can climb one of England's highest and best-known hills, Helvellyn, or get off the beaten track by visiting some secret places known only to a privileged few. The choice, as always, is yours.ullswater details

Ambleside

Ambleside could be said to be the southern gateway to the heart of the Lake District, giving access to an enormous range of walking - from gentle lakeside strolls to more ambitious walking around Langdale and Coniston. A new destination for 2008 with Knobbly Stick - come and try it with us!ambleside details

Hill walking the easy way

An introduction to hill walking for those who want to be treated a bit gently. Lovely seascapes, some modest hills and attractive woodlands characterise this holiday. We offer two holidays here - one a wake-up call for springtime, and the other to fortify us before the stresses and strains of the Christmas season.hill walking the easy way details

B&B bargain breaks

Some people don't want a slap-up meal at then end of each walking day. They prefer to find a pub or a modest restaurant, have a quick meal and a couple of drinks and then get ready for the next day. So if you want a guided walking holiday where you are free to do as you please in the evenings, this one could be for you.B&B bargain breaks details
