Knobbly Stick is owned and run by Pete Jackson and John Nicholls, both very experienced walkers in their 50s, both married, and both with grown up families.
Knobbly Stick has been running walking holidays since May 2002. Amid riotous celebrations, we were kindly joined by lots of well wishers to mark our 5th birthday at the Glenridding Hotel in May 2007.
We are very proud of the fact that many people come back to us over and over again - we have 2 people who have clocked up over 20 holidays each (remember that's in 5 years) and a few others who are already into double figures. Be warned, being Knobbly can be addictive! We think that the reason that people do come back is that firstly they love walking, and they love being able to share our passion for the places we visit. Other companies will perhaps provide you with cheaper holidays, others will take you to more exotic destinations, but none, we believe, will give you the same level of personal attention that we give with Knobbly Stick.
You can tell the difference between Pete and John by the following, although you don't really need to, as they both answer to each other's names:
John is fatter than Pete.
John speaks French better than Pete (although Pete's French is better than he claims).
Pete speaks German better than John (whose German is a lot worse than he thinks)
John speaks Spanish better than Pete.
Pete likes to give the impression that he doesn't know very much, but in fact he knows a lot.
John likes to give the impression that he knows a lot (he's an ex-teacher) but in fact...
Both like music, but not the same types, only coinciding on the greatest hits of the 60s.
Both have a vast repository of absolutely useless knowledge on various subjects.
Pete reckons that John is a lot smilier than he is.
Both have an appalling set of jokes.
