Lake District Magic - Tarn on Steel Fell, February - view our gallery
Welcome to the lands of Knobbly Stick - for walking and hiking - and of Routes Less Travelled – our discovery holidays, with less walking and hiking (but still some!) and more stopping to have a look and find out about things as we go by.
A bit about us. Knobbly Stick, run by 2 experienced walkers, Pete Jackson and John Nicholls, started in 2002, mainly doing guided walking holidays in the English Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Since then, we have increased the number of places we visit on our walking holidays such as France and Ireland, and have also expanded our self-guided walking holidays business.
Knobbly Stick will organise the following self-guided walking holidays for you in the English Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria:
- Well known linear hiking routes, such as the Dales Way, the western half of the Coast-to-Coast walk and the Cumbria Way
- Less well-known routes like the Settle to Kirkby Stephen railway walk and the Tour of the Lake District
- Routes of our own invention, like the Lakes to Dales walk, Undiscovered Cumbria and the 3 Peaks of the Yorkshire Dales Walk
- Flexible walking holidays and hiking vacations – either linear or circular from a single centre
- A long distance circular route around the Lake District, taking in some of the Wainwright tops
We can customise these self guided walking and hiking holidays so that they are suitable for all levels of ambition and ability.
We will also organise:
- By request, guided walking holidays or days out in the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales
- Corporate breaks in the English Lakes and Yorkshire Dales for your business associates and employees
Routes Less Travelled runs guided discovery holidays in the following areas:
- The English Lake District
- The Yorkshire Dales
- County Mayo in western Ireland
- Holidays in France and Belgium – Flanders, the Opal Coast, the Loire valley and Normandy
Please have a look around our website; we think that there is something for almost everybody. If you want more information on any of our holidays, please consult our walking holiday brochure or drop us an email. Alternatively, of course, you can fill in an online booking form. We’ll be glad to hear from you.
